What AAAA means

AAAA (“quad A”) is a marketing grade, not a legal one. It usually signals carefully grown, hand-trimmed flower with tight buds, visible trichomes and a pronounced aroma. Because there is no official definition, two sellers can use it differently — judge the product by the strain, the photos, the listed potency and the price rather than the letters alone.

The grade ladder

  • AAAA — top shelf: tightest buds, best trim, strongest aroma.
  • AAA — premium: good appearance and aroma at a lower price.
  • AA — value: everyday flower, less uniform buds.

What top-shelf flower should look, smell and feel like

  • Structure: dense, compact buds with a smooth, resin-covered surface and no bald patches where resin was rubbed off.
  • Trichomes: under magnification, cloudy or milky heads indicate a mature harvest; clear heads suggest early picking and amber a later one. It is a maturity signal, not a grade.
  • Colour: vivid greens, purples or oranges; dull grey or yellowed buds are usually old or badly stored.
  • Aroma: strong and distinct when the jar opens, with more layers when a bud is broken apart.
  • Feel: slightly springy and tacky — not brittle, and not damp.

Looks cannot show potency, pesticide residue or microbial contamination. If a lab certificate is available, check total THC, terpene totals (1–4% is typical) and the contaminant panel.

Price per gram by size

Flower is commonly sold by the eighth (3.5 g), quarter (7 g), half (14 g) and ounce (28 g). Divide the price by the grams to compare: as an illustration, $50 for 3.5 g is about $14.29 a gram, while $160 for 28 g is about $5.71 a gram. Larger sizes usually cost less per gram, but only buy what you can use while it is fresh.

Choosing AAAA flower

Start with a strain you know the profile of — a Wedding Cake, Blue Dream or Granddaddy Purple cut — and read the genetics and aroma notes on its page. AAAA is priced above AAA and AA, so the largest saving usually comes from a bigger size. Keep flower in an airtight glass jar, cool and dark. You must be of legal age in your province: 19 in most of Canada, 18 in Alberta and 21 in Quebec.

FAQ: AAAA Weed

Is AAAA a regulated grade?
No. AAAA, AAA and AA are informal terms used by sellers to describe flower quality. They are not part of any government standard.
Is AAAA weed stronger than AAA?
Not necessarily. The grade describes appearance, trim and aroma more than THC. Compare the potency range shown for each strain.
How can I tell if flower is really top shelf?
Look for dense, resin-covered buds with no bald patches, vivid colour, a strong layered aroma and a slightly springy feel. Only a lab certificate can confirm potency and contaminants.
How much does AAAA weed cost?
Prices vary by strain and size. Each product page shows the current price in CAD; the partner shop shows the final price at checkout.
What are the best AAAA strains?
It depends on taste. Wedding Cake, Blue Dream, Granddaddy Purple, Apple Fritter and Sundae Driver are popular picks; each page lists its aroma and parentage.
How should I store AAAA flower?
Airtight glass jar, cool and dark, away from heat and light.
