The City of Lévis was formed in 1861 through the merger of the Village of Lévis and Township of Dorchester. In 1966, it became a borough of Quebec City and gained city status in 1985.
Lévis is located on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River and is considered as one of Chaudière-Appalaches region’s largest cities after Thetford Mines. As per Statistics Canada’s data from 2016, Lévis has a population of 145,122 residents, making it Quebec’s eleventh most populous city.
