Cannabis pollen is extracted from trichomes, which are small vesicles that the plant uses for defense. It is a very cannabinoid concentrate and is sought after for its purity. We give you all the practical information you need to make your choice and stay legal.
What is cannabis pollen and what is it made of?
Before we discuss the legalities of cannabis pollen, let’s cover some basics. The language used to talk about cannabis can be confusing and is often misconstrued.
The term cannabis is referring to a plant called c. It has different varieties, but they are all part of the same family. In agriculture, this plant is more commonly known as hemp. This confusion often first arises when people try to understand why hemp would be legal and able to be cultivated when cannabis isn’t allowed under the law. The answer is actually a bit more complicated than that- which we will explain in greater detail in our recent article discussing the legality of cannabis
The marijuana plant is dried and crushed to produce hashish, or hash. Hash comes from the same plant, but it contains smaller glands called trichomes. Cannabis resin is produced in the trichomes, which are tiny crystals that look like pollen.
Different types of cannabis pollen
To obtain cannabis pollen, trichomes are extracted from the plant and then heated and compressed. This process results in a finished product that looks like a small ball or pebble. It is generally sold for 10 to 20 Euros per gram.
It’s very difficult to remove the trichomes from other plant components, such as leaves and flowers at the top. As a result, the extraction technique has a big influence on the quality of the final product. It is not uncommon to find low-quality items that cannot be clumped together into a compact ball due to the inclusion of numerous leaf and bud fragments. The choice of plants, extraction method, and screening process all have an impact on product quality.
The quality and final composition of cannabis pollen are largely determined by the plant from which it came. To be marketable in France, the THC (the cannabinoid responsible for the planning effects) content of the cannabis plant must be less than 0.3 percent. Only these plants can therefore lawfully be used to produce cannabis pollen in France since only they have low levels of THC (the cannabinoid responsible for the planning effects). CBD pollen is a more precise term for that. In fact, their component is high in cannabidiol, a cannabinoid (active ingredient) with soothing qualities but no psychoactive properties.
Lastly, the potential impurities can change the quality of the final product which will be improved if it is pure. At GG4, we only use extracts that are 100% natural and obtained from certified flowers by the European Union (EU).
Use of cannabis pollen
On the illegal market, cannabis pollen is mostly used as a smoking substance. It is then combined with tobacco or marijuana before being rolled into pollen joints or smoked in a pipe. His success is due to his high cannabinoid concentration, which includes THC and its euphoric effects. Pollen seals are indeed more resilient than marijuana. However, this usage is outright banned in France.
However, cannabis consumption is legal in a number of countries. In the Netherlands, for example, the resin is extracted by freezing and centrifuging the trichomes. This version is known as “skuff.” It can also be found in coffee shops in the Netherlands. Switzerland was one of the first countries to legalize marijuana products; it now produces legal pollens. Some are intended for federal use; while others have a limit on THC concentration (up to 1%). Some products are for the European market and contain a maximum of 0.3% CBD. These products often have high levels of other cannabinoids, leading consumers to seek out the various effects that these compounds offer. In particular, many people look for the anti-inflammatory properties of CBD.
